dc.description.abstractThe purposes of this research are to describe the role play technique used to solve the problems the students have and to describe the strengths and weaknesses of the role play technique used in elementary school. This research is a class action research. There are 20 students of grade V in a class. The teaching learning process is held at SDN Pajang lV Surakarta. The results of the research are that l. teaching English for students in Elementary School using the role play technique is able to increase their ability irLl speaking English without text, 2. there are strenghts and weaknesses found. Those are (a) the object uscd in role play should be a reality, not a mock up. The real object makes the students easier to memorize the new vocabulary instead of pictures and written forms, (b) although the existence of the real object is more expensive than mock-up one, the result of the student's ability is better. The teaching learning process should be accompanied by other equipment, such as tape recorders and VCD. It also needs a long time to practice with a role play technique, (c) the classroom should be arranged in such a way that it is easy for students to move while they play a role in a play. The students should be given a snack in order to make the stamina always fit.in_ID
