SISTEM PENAMAAN TEMPAT DI KOMPLEKS TAMANSARI KERATON YOGYAKARTA (KAJIAN LINGUISTIK ANTROPOLOGIS)
Abstract
Tamansari Castle was built in the 17th century AD during the reign of Sultan Hamengkubuwono I. It is originally a royal rest house on an island surrounded by water on an artificial lake. The interesting thing about place naming in Tamansari is the name of the place whose reference largely in accordance with the function, shape, location and the user. This study includes searches of cultural backgrounds in a naming system of Tamansari. This description begins with a background classification of place naming in Tamansari. A brief description of lexical formation processes of place naming in Tamansari was done in order to describe the Tamansari naming system based on the pattern of naming associated with the function, shape, location and the users. The data include lexicon and variety of information relating to the names of places in Tamansari. Naming system in Tamansari always adjust the function, shape, location, and physical appearance of the places. The cultural background of Tamansari naming system includes architectural style, aesthetics, defense systems, belief systems, acculturation, as well as Sultan’s perspective towards women. This naming system is a reflection of the fact that the Javanese people are more preferred at some simple naming pattern with the nearest references they could possibly found
