dc.description.abstractSaliva has an important role in maintaining oral health because they contain carbonic acid- bicarbonate, phosphate, urea and ammonia that can be used as a buffer and neutralize the pH decrease caused by plaque bacteria that metabolize sugars derived from food intake with low molecular weight. A decrease in salivary pH below 5.0-5.5 will cause demineralization of the tooth that increase the risk of dental caries. A decrease in the pH of saliva can be prevented by chemically herbal mouthwash solution of ethanol extract of Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav 4%. Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav contains fitokemikal were able to increase saliva secretion and lowers the acidity of the oral cavity. The purpose of this study was to test ability of 4% ethanol extract ofPiper Crocatum Ruiz & Pav as mouthwash on saliva’s pH to prevent carries occurrence on teeth. This research was a laboratory experimental study using one group pre-test post-test design with 30 samples of the students of SDIT BIAS Klaten. The method used with measure the saliva’s pH after treatment with 4% ethanol extract ofPiper Crocatum Ruiz & Pav as mouthwash by using digitally pH’s meter with 0,0-14,00 on scale with 0,01 of sensitivity from senseline F410. Results are expected for the discovery of new mouthwash from herbal ingredients, especially ethanol extract of Piper Crocatum Ruiz & Pav. In conclusion, 4 % of ethanol extract of Piper Crocatum Ruiz & Pav influential as an mouthwashcan increase saliva’s pH.in_ID
