Inkonsistensi Pola Pemugaran Pada Candi Sewu: Dialog Kritis Antara Arkeologi dan Arsitektur

Abstract

Restoration is done in order to sustain heritage buildings and their information into next generations, not only in form of stories, but also in form of real constructions. Restoration still raises some critical issues regarding the cross lines between archeology and architecture. This study tries to verify main assumption that: during the restoration process of Sewu Temple (Middle Java-Indonesia), in stone re-installing step, there are some inconsistencies that have negative impacts on aesthetic main values of the temple. Through library then qualitative empirical descriptive research, this study ends to a main result that in Sewu Temple restoration process, there were many inconsistencies in reinstalling new substituter stones, which had negative implications on architecture aesthetic values. Such negative implications could be traced to the sculpture process of those new stones, where they were not in accordance either with archeological or architectural principles. The findings of this study are to call upon more knowledge integration and professional synergy between archeology and architecture within restoration projects and teams in future works.
