    Abstract
The development of Muhammadiyah in Batang can be viewed from three aspects, that is (1) institutional sector, (2) what Muhammadiyah has managed, and (3) missionary endeavor. The first , the institutional sector. Muhammadiyah entered Batang in Tersono and Limpung subdistricts in 1926. There have been eight Muhammadiyah branches among 12 subdistricts. It indicates that there is positive development and it shows that Muhammadiyah is accepted by Batang people. The second , what Muhammadiyah has managed. There are three prominent kinds of what Muhammadiyah has managed, that is, the education from nursery schools up to senior high ones (55 schools), economics in the form of baitulmal wattamwil (6 units), and mosques and prayer houses (54 units). The third, missionary endeavor (da’wah ). It was not easy to convey Islamic teachings that fight against heresy, superstition, and, myth in the beginning of Muhammadiyah in Batang, but the way Muhammadiyah understands Islam can be accepted by the society especially people who are educated and those who have broad insights. Key words words: Muhammadiyah education, history and the development of Islamic missionary endeavor.
