Increasing transportation mode causes the increase of the amount of motorized vehicle on the road. Such condition will bring noise problems that need to be solved properly since improper handling will disturb public activities, also education areas which are located near the main road. Some education areas in Surakarta residing in about main road, among other things: SD Al Islam, MA Al of Islam Jamsaren, SLTPN 12, SMKN 6, SDN Kleco 2 and SMP Muh 5 Surakarta also require attention. Objects of this research are: measuring noise level value in the areas which are mentioned above and then compare them with the tolerable noise standard of education zone. When a problem has been identified, the next step is to find some alternatives of solution. Noise level value analyzes are based on traffic flow data and the results of noise measurement by using Sound Level Meter. Others supporting data are: travel time and the geometrical condition of environment and main road. Based on analyzes results which are provided by measurement by using measurement tools and empirical equivalent, noise intensity are generally higher than the tolerable noise criteria for education areas, i.e. 55 dB(A). It is then needed to be solved. Some of the proposed solutions are: [1] for the first cases at SD and MA Al-Islam Jamsaren Surakarta the solution will be planning vegetation barriers to strain direct noise from the main road, designing walls which the combination material ratio between 1/8 to ¼ of glass and other massive material to reduce outdoor noise as much as 26-29 dB, [2] for the second cases the solution will be giving vegetation as protection as preliminary step to reduce noise from main road, and also planning to build material of the walls at the two buildings with 100% glasses since glass material is able to reduce noise at about 20 dB at the SMK Negeri 6 and SLTP Negeri 12 Surakarta, [3] as for the third cases, the solution will be planning vegetation dominantly because too high noise level which is come from highway will disturb teaching-learning process in the location of SD Negeri Kleco II. Therefore, planning vegetation barrier to reduce noise from highway and planning to design walls could be done by using materials of glass or brick, or combination between them at the location of SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta.en_US
