The implementation of stream buffer or river flood plain regulation is needed in Indonesia. In the conservation and environment era of river management the comprehensive approach on river stream buffer management which can be used at various conditions is also strongly needed. Indonesian literatures discussed in explicit manner about the stream buffer width, is very limited. The width of stream buffer is a sum of the flood plain width, sliding plain width, ecological buffer width and river safety width. This research investigates comprehensively stream buffer width based on literature review, existing Indonesian regulations review and field observation. The explored components are river morphology, river hydraulic and river ecology. The research locations are in Progo River, Opak, Oyo, Code and Gadjah Wong. The final result is a table of stream buffer width at various conditions which can be used as reference of consideration for regulation decision about river buffer width in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. This table is developed based on the stream buffer width table from “Permen PU/62/1993” and therefore can be also used as early reference for other regions which have similar condition of river morphology, river ecology, and river hydraulic.en_US
