To evaluate deflection of a slab using theory of beam on elastic foundation needs a value of vertical modulus subgrade reaction (k). This k values are usually obtained by conducting plate load test using rigid plate with 30 cm or 76 cm in diameters. For a larger concrete slab, the determination of coefficient of vertical modulus subgrade reaction to evaluate the performance of concrete slab (rigid pavement) need to be examined. A study of the behavior of concrete slab under loading has been carried out at the Soil Mechanics Laboratory Civil Engineering Department Gadjah Mada University. Flexible thin reinforced concrete slabs having a dimension of 3m x 1m x 0,1m, supported by 12 piles have been subjected to point loads at several points. Deflections on the slab were observed and compared with those calculated using the theory of beam on elastic foundation involving determination the coefficient of modulus of subgrade reaction (k). Results of this study showed that the adopted method may be used to evaluate the performance of the concrete slab (rigid pavement) and gave satisfactory prediction of the concrete slab deflection under a point load.en_US
