Activities in the mosque, especially prayer, require tranquility in order for
the prayer to be performed perfectly. Therefore a mosque site, together with its
elements, must be able to create such tranquility by lowering and reducing
unwanted noises. The first year’s result shows that the distance of buildings to
the source of noise is the most significant factor in reducing noises. This is not a
problem on a large mosque site, but this is for the small site, which has closer
distance to source of noises.. So that it is necessary to refine site elements that
can reduce noise as the findings of former research.
This research aims to apply the former research finding concept in
mosque site design.. The study begins with the determination of a selected sample
of models based on different sources of noise in site (traffic noises and other
source of noise from the train). Further analysis of noise reduction process is
done manually (with SLM) and digital (with Surface Mapping System). From this
analysis it can be seen the effectiveness of the reduction elements of the site.The
elements that are less effective to reduce noises is refined by applying the concept
of reduction, the finding of former research. In applying the concept into a site
elements design supported by references that are the functional aspect of site
elements (in order to noise reduction) and aesthetics aspect to maximize noise
reduction and strengthening the character of the mosque site
Based on the analysis of samples of the mosque site model can be
concluded that in reducing noise, barrier is the most effective solution in small
mosque site (sources of noise closer to the building). Refining the barrier can be
done by: 1) combination of insulation barriers like walls with vines, and walls
with shrubs that have reduction ability, 2) barrier-layered, with varying material
to strengthen the noise absorption In small mosque site commomly the outdoor
used for circulation with the pavement, so as to accommodate these functions as
well as increase the ability of noise absorption of the surface, the grass block
model is used. Reduction of noise in small sites can also be done by making a
difference in land elevation between site and road (topographic formed), because
this can enhance the barrier
