Clove (Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. & Perry.) reported to have activity as aphrodisiac. Extract of ethanolic 50% of clove has been shown to increase libido male rats. Content of sterols and phenolic compounds suspected as aphrodisiac efficacious. This study aimed to determine of aphrodisiac effect of essential oils of clove in rats. This research with a complete randomized with 25 male rats that divided into 5 groups. Group I (positive control) were given Tribulus terrestris 25 mg/kgBB. Group II (negative control) were given 1% tween 80. Group III, IV, and V, respectively given the essential oils of clove doses of 6.25, 12.5 and 25 mg/kgBB. Treatment is given once a day (18:00 hours) for 7 days. In the last days at 19:30 hours male rats penis smeared with xylocaine gel, at 20:00 hours, and placed in cages with 1 female rat. Observations of ML and MF done during 2 hours. Mounting Latency (ML) is the time interval between the introduction of the female and the first mount by the male. Mounting Frequency (MF) is the number of mounts before ejaculation. The data of ML and MF were analyzed with General Linear Model-Multivariate followed by Tukey-HSD with 95% confidence level. This results showed that the essential oil of clove dose of 12.5 and 25mg/kgBB have aphrodisiac effects (increased libido) in male rats. Dose of 25 mg/kgBB showed valueof ML was 3,0 ± 1 (minute) and 77,4 ± 4,1 times for MF value.en_US
