PENGARUH PENDIDIKAN KESEHATAN TERHADAP PENGETAHUAN DAN SIKAP MEROKOK PADA SISWA LAKI-LAKI KELAS XI SMK MURNI 1 SURAKARTA

Abstract

Smoking is dangerous for health since the smoke inhaled contains nicotine, tar and carbonmonoxide. School-aged adolescent group has higher potential as smokers so that health education held in schools is very important to improve the students’ knowledge and attitude to smoking. The objective of the research was to investigate the influence of health education in male students of class XI SMK Murni 1 Surakarta on their knowledge and attitude to smoking. This study used quasi experimental method with non-randomized pre-test post-test control group design. Amount of respondents was 32 students for respective group. Data was obtained through questionnaire. The data were analyzed by independent t-test and Mann-Whitney test. There was a significant difference between male students’ knowledge and attitude with intervention and those who were not given intervention. In pretest, the p value of knowledge was 0.79 and p value of attitude was 0.995. Whereas in the post-test, the p value of knowledge was 0.000 while p value of attitude was 0.001. In conclusion, health education can improve knowledge and attitude in male students of class XI SMK Murni 1 Surakarta.
