Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus are two fungi that can cause health problems. C. albicans can lead to thrush while A. fumigatus can cause aspergillosis. The purpose of this study was to discover the diversity of Actinomycetes isolated from the rhizosphere of rice (Oriza sativa) as well as to test the resistance to C. albicans and A. fumigatus. Results of this study indicated that there were
14 different isolates of actinomycetes that were isolated from the rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere of rice. Among the 14 isolates, three isolates, could inhibit the growth of C. albicans, which were RPR 8 isolates with diameter 20 mm (moderate), 42 RPR isolates with diameter 18.33 mm (moderate) and NRPR 6 isolates with diameter 24 mm (medium). However, none of the isolates were able to inhibit the growth of A. fumigatus. Based on the results of this study, it could be concluded that the Actino- mycetes isolated from the rhizosphere of rice yield were potential as antifungal agent for the treatment of candidiasis.
