dc.description.abstractThis research deals with the traditional performing arts being potential to support tourism in Surakarta. The study aims at describing the profile of traditional performing arts, the constraints encountered for revitalization, and the importance of the revitalization for supporting tourism in the neighborhood. The data-collecting method includes documentation and interview. The data-analyzing technique is the interactive model. The outcome of the research is as follows: (1) the types of performing arts in Surakarta includes Wayang Purwa, Wayang Wong, Kethoprak, Dhagelan (Comedy), Traditional Dance, and Karawitan; (2) the constraints encountered in revitalizing performing arts are lack of actual qualities, lack of professional management; decreasing appreciation for traditional culture, and the powerful flow of Western civilization as well as communications technology; the potential supports of traditional performing arts to tourism in Surakarta include integrating arts performance into tourist packages, involving tourists in the performances, employing professional stage management, integrating the arts performances into the educational curriculum of arts studies, and the synergy of different stakeholders in the wider community.en_US
