Increasing maternal health is one of the target of Millenium Development Goals
(MDGs). Mortality and morbidity in pregnancy and giving birth are crucial problems in
developing countries. One of the causes is due to anemia. In 2010, the prevalence of anemia of
maternal in Indonesia is around 70%. It seems that 7 from 10 maternal is suffering from
anemia. In decades, it is argued that most of anemia in Indonesia is because of iron deficiency.
There is an enormous effort from national and international government to improve maternal
health in order to decrease maternal mortality hence may increase great generation. This
research aimed to identify the phenomenon of maternal health problems in the coverage of
Puskesmas (primary health care center) Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia; to
identify the model of community participation that effective to increase maternal health in an
Islamic nursing context. The research method was a mix method. Indepth interviewes were done
to head of health ministry, head of puskesmas, village government, midwiveries, cadre and the
maternal themselves. The quantitative method used pre experimental with one group pre test –
post test study design without control group. The intervention was done by giving health
education related to knowledge and health behaviour to the participant. Result showed that
there were some important points from the key person in improving maternal health. Beside,
Wilcoxon test reported that there was a good improvement in terms of knowledge and health
behaviour with p-value = 0,001<0,05.
