dc.description.abstract | In the establishing of a construction it is often found difficult soils recognized by low bearing capacity
and high swelling. This condition is not beneficial for the construction. A simple solution to
overcome this problem is to replace the difficult soil with better ones. Sragen people often use soils
from Miri as substitution of their difficult soils before building a house. Miri soils are often used to
substitute difficult soils as highway subgrade. These soils have specific characteristics, that is in the
dry condition look like sands, but in the wet one they have high stickness. So far there is no a research
about this soils. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a researh to learn physical and mechanical
characterictics of these soils. This research examines soils physical characterictics, unconfined
compression strength (UCS) and permeability of Miri soils. The research methods used in this research
involve several test covering properties test, unconfined compression test and permeability
test according to ASTM standard. The result of the research shows that Miri soils have specific
gravity 2.63 liquid limit 62.85% shrinkage limit 20.06% and plasticity index 27.73%. According to
USCS classification this soils are classified in SC group and according to AASHTO classification
they are classified in A-7-5(7) group. The value of UCS on 90% γd max dry 3.815 kg/cm2, 95% γd
max dry 5.430 kg/cm2, γd max 5.815 kg/cm2, 95% γd max wet 2.060 kg/cm2 and 90% γd max wet
1.425 kg/cm2. The value of permeability on 90% γd max dry 1.458 x 10-4cm/dt, 95% γd max dry
7.773 x 10-5 cm/dt, γd max 4.453 x 10-5 cm/dt , 95% γd max wet 2.246 x 10-5cm/dt dan 90% γd max
wet 4.211 x 10-6kg/cm2. | en_US |
