Background : Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum) and sweet orange (Citrus sinensis)
peels of ethanolic extracts contain compounds supposedly as antihyperuricemic agent
such as ellagic acid, luteoline, hesperidine and rutine. The aim of this study was purposed
antihyperuricemic activity of sweet orange and rambutan peels ethanol extracts on the
Swiss male mice induced by potassium oxonate.
Methods : The assay of the effect of sweet orange and rambutan peels extracts done
experimentally with post-test control group design using forty male mice were divided
into 8 groups: the positive control group (allopurinol dose of 10 mg/kgBW), the negative
control group (CMC-Na 0.5%), three treatment groups were each given rambutan
peels ethanol extract doses 125; 250 and 500 mg/kgBW and the other three treatment
groups were each given sweet orange peels ethanol extract doses 125; 250 and 500 mg/
kgBW. Serum uric acid concentrations were analyzed by TBHBA enzymatic methods at
a wavelength of 546 nm.
Result : The results showed that the extracts of sweet orange and rambutan peels
dose of 500 mg / kg bw had reduced of uric levels acid in the blood serum of mice,
respectively 91.81 and 72.51% exceeds the activity shown by allopurinol 66.67%.
Conslusions : The ethanol extract of orange peel and sweet rambutan have effect in
lowering serum uric acid levels.
