dc.description.abstractThis qualitative study aims at classifying the strategies used by the translator in transferring the directive utterance found in the subtitle of The Hunger Games. The object of this current research is directive speech act, found in the subtitle of the movie. Then, the data source is The Hunger Games movie itself. In order to collect the data, this study uses documentation method which covers (1) downloading the subtitle from website; (2) separating speech acts which are categorized as directive utterances; (3) writing the directive utterances on a piece of paper. The techniques of analyzing data are by (1) giving code at every single data choosen; (2) determining the strategy used by the translator in transferring directive utterance; (3) drawing conclusion from the data found. The result shows that the translator transfers the directive utterance using seven strategies: level shift, intra-system shift, structural shift, addition, deletion, adaptation, and adoption. All these strategies which used by the translator are intended to make the translation natural.in_ID
