Oral Hygiene Menggunakan Madu Menurunkan Risiko Pertumbuhan Bakteri Di Mulut Melalui Netralisasi Ph Saliva
Abstract
The mouth is one organ that often occur a focal infection. The mouth is not always in pristine condition, dental plaque that arised the result of colonization and growth of microorganisms on the surface of the tooth. Nearly 70-80% of solid material in dental plaque consists of bacteria and 1 mm³ contains more than 108 bacteria and more than 300 species of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. One way to maintain oral hygiene can be done with oral hygiene (Ghofur, 2012). There are various types of agents used in oral hygiene, such as NaCl, baking soda, honey, gention violet, borax glycerin, and so on. The purpose of this study to identify the effectiveness of honey in oral hygiene to reduce the risk of bacterial growth in the mouth. The research was quasy pre and post test experimental design with 49 sample. Researchers measured the pH of saliva before and after oral hygiene. Oral hygiene by brushing your teeth and gargle using honey. The results showed there are difference in the pH of saliva before and after oral hygiene. Salivary pH pretest mostly acidic, while a pH of most of the post-test in the normal category. High mineral content in the natural honey proved capable of changing the pH of saliva which was originally acidic to alkaline so automatically dental health will be maintained (Purbaya, 2007).
