In tackling the symptoms of pain, inflammation and stiffness have long used drugs known as anti-inflammatory analgesics or NSAIDs (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), and corticosteroids were more have side effects. The enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX) is the main enzyme in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins from arachidonic acid formation. There are two isoenzymes, namely COX-1 and COX-2. Pharmacological inhibition of COX enzymes can be done with a class of drugs non seteroid anti-inflammatory (NSAID) to relieve inflammation and pain. Soursop (Annona muricata Linn.) is a tropical plant of the family Annonaceae. The leaves of the soursop plant is reported to contain essential oils and empirically useful as an anti inflamation. The purpose of this study was to find out information on anti-inflammatory activity by inhibition of Cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) of the leaf extract of soursop (Annona muricata L.) with the observations made to the decrease of absorbance as a mediator prostaglandin formation of pain. The result showed Annona muricata had inhibition activity for COX2 at 115,93ppm for ethanolic extract and 312,82 ppm for water extract of annona muricata leaves..
