dc.description.abstractTeori evolusi merupakan salah satu konsep utama yang menghubungkan konsep-konsep yang ada dalam biologi. Sementara, penolakan dan miskonsepsi teori evolusi masih terjadi hingga saat ini. Di sisi lain, pemahaman yang rendah dan salah satunya dapat disebabkan oleh banyaknya konsep abstrak dalam teori evolusi juga kerap ditemukan. Penelitian ini mengungkap pemahaman konsep evolusi pada mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Biologi semester VI di dua perguruan tinggi di Kota Pontianak dan siswa kelas XII IPA semester 2 di SMA swasta berakreditasi A di Kabupaten Sanggau, Kalimantan Barat. Pemahaman konsep dalam materi evolusi diungkap melalui pemberian tes diagnostik dengan tipe pilihan ganda three-tier untuk tiga topik yaitu teori evolusi Darwin, bukti dan mekanisme evolusi. Pada konsep-konsep dasar seperti pengertian dan bukti evolusi, pengertian seleksi alam serta mutasi sebagai bahan dasar variasi, pemahaman mahasiswa menunjukkan persentase tertinggi. Meskipun demikian, pada konsep lanjutan yang menggali pemahaman tentang makna variasi dalam teori evolusi, variasi intraspesies, struktur analogi, kekerabatan antarspesies, ciri mekanisme evolusi dan makna karakter yang menguntungkan dalam seleksi alam mengalami penurunan tajam. Perbedaan pemahaman konsep evolusi antara mahasiswa yang sedang mengambil mata kuliah evolusi dengan siswa kelas XII semester 2 dari SMA swasta berakreditasi A ditemukan pada konsep makna variasi dalam teori evolusi dan adanya variasi intraspesies. Pemahaman konsep tentang makna variasi dalam teori evolusi dan adanya variasi intraspesies di antara siswa Kelas XII IPA semester 2 SMA Don Bosco Sanggau jauh lebih tinggi dari dua kelompok subjek mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Biologi Untan dan UMP. Pemahaman konsep yang rendah di perguruan tinggi pada materi evolusi lanjutan perlu ditangani dengan cepat dan tepat, terutama jika menyangkut lulusan program studi penghasil guru biologi untuk sekolah menengah.in_ID
