The development of prospective teachers is important because the performance of Institute
of Education (LPTK) is considered unsatisfactory in producing professional educators. The
purpose of this study is to test the motivation and achievement factors as a determinant of the high
level of student involvement in studying in Accounting Education Study Program in Universitas
Muhammadiyah Surakarta. This research involves 300 samples from student of 2010, 2012, and 2014.
This research uses quantitative method with multiple regression analysis and one sample T-Test.
The results showed that the higher the motivation, the higher the level of student participation.
In addition, the results of data analysis show that students with good academic achievement in
the previous semester will have higher participation rate than students who have low academic
achievement.
