Pemberdayaan Peran Perkumpulan Ibu Rumah Tangga terhadap Permasalahan Lingkungan RT 06 RW 02 Keputih, Sukolilo Surabaya

Abstract

Gender equality is one of the current issues of national development that still becomes hot topic nowadays. There are many factors influence the gender equality such as traditional culture that is considered as the barrier factor to attain it. Moreover, women role as wives or housewives are still often considered to be quite handling matters of the household. Javanese culture says that housewives are identically with the term of three R, namely kitchen, well, and mattress. But nowadays, the term is no longer relevant to the figure of women and wives in the city such as Surabaya. In urban society, women have been able playing role both in economic and career. Though, it does not come with the role of women to achieve better social life such as in government and political affair. Therefore, one of ways to increase the women’s role to engage in decisions concerning their environments is started at the lowest level, namely neighborhood Association (Indonesian: RT). As the result, initiating the role of women in the form of association of housewives or often termed as social gathering is held. This social gathering forum of housewives in RT 06 RW 02 Keputih Sukolilo Surabaya is expected to give contribution to RT's decision.
