Implementation of PP 87/2017 on Character Education in Elementary Schools
Abstract
Education is more than equipping knowledge cognitively to students. In fact, character education is
inevitable and highly crucial to the success of students’ learning and lives. It is character that creates
great people and brings brigther future for students. Along with this belief, Indonesian goverment has
emphasized character education through goverment regulations named Peraturan Presiden number 87
year 2017 on Penguatan Pendidikan Karakter. This regulation was established for both formal and nonformal
educational
institutions
to
hold character education
programs
based on values of
Pancasila as
the
foundational
philosophical
theory
of Indonesia.
Interestingly,
government does
not establish a
certain
model
of character education
for
schools to follow,
but they give space for schools to create their system of
character
education.
