Islam and democracy has fundamental differences. The most fundamental prob-lems that both can yet be confronted lay on both ideally fundamental thought. Islam lays its fundamental thought on transcendental revelation while democracy lays on its humani-tarian views. This article will discuss to Nurcholish Madjid’s, dubbed as Cak nur views on Islam and democracy. Cak Nur has tried to play important role on how Islam and democ-racy can be encountered. He tried to theologize democracy with Islamic doctrine to unite the fundamental differences thought between Islam and Democracy. He used apologetic approach to engage liberal democracy inherence with Islam. His apologetic approach affirms that Islam is universal in nature that equals with democracy principals and secu-larization that means separating religion and politic. Nevertheless, his views on Islam and democracy have a blind spot. This article will argue that he has failed to pull both Islam and democracy as universality rather his concept of universalism has trapped to its par-ticularity. In addition his view on secularism is problematic if it collides to the current phenomena of democratic ideal principle on political plurality.en_US
