ISLAM DAN DEMOKRASI: IMPLEMENTASINYA DALAM GERAKAN ISLAM INDONESIA

Abstract

This paper unravels the landscape of the variety of Muslim’s ideas on Democracy, ranging from the advocates of ortodox to progressive. It focuses on the implementation of democracy in Indonesia, disclosing the fact that Indonesia is basically an open country living peacefully in the global village. Indonesia is inevitably under the influence of democratic governing system. Democracy has raised the Indonesian even to the Independent Day. It conveys the Islamic term of Musyawarah which is frequently stated in the Indonesian Pancasila and UUD 1945. Musyawarah is also a practice implemented oftentime during the era of Prophet Muhammad. At present democracy are widely uses and prevails in the Muslim world, despite the pros and cons. The argumentation begs to avoid treating democracy like ’impure goods’ such as calling it haram stuff like maisir, khinzir, almaitah and ad-dam. It recommends to critically discuss democracy, while also suggests to localize the execution.
