HUBUNGAN PERSEPSI KELUARGA TENTANG GANGGUAN JIWA DENGAN SIKAP KELUARGA KEPADA ANGGOTA KELUARGA YANG MENGALAMI GANGGUAN JIWA DI RUMAH SAKIT JIWA DAERAH SURAKARTA
Abstract
A person with psychiatric disorders got personality fractures such as thought, perception, and emotion aberrations. Family plays the most important role as the source of medication for the ill family member. It is required good perception for the family members about mental illness and a good attitude to accept a family member who got mental illness. The research objective is to determine the correlation between perceptions of family and family attitudes toward mental illness patients at the Regional Psychiatric Hospital Surakarta. The research uses descriptive correlative method with the data collection technique using cross sexional approach. The population of the study is 2831 mental illness patients, whereas samples taken as many as 96 family members of patients with consecutive sampling technique. The research data obtained by distributing questionnaires about mental illness and perceptions of family attitudes questionnaire to family members and then the data are analyzed using Fisher exact test. The result shows that 50 respondents (21.1%) possess a negative perception of mental illness, while 46 respondents (47.9%) have positive perceptions about mental illness. A total of 52 respondents (54.2%) have a positive attitude while 44 respondents (45.8%) have a negative attitude. The results of the research hypothesis test obtained p-value =
0.001. Based on the analiysis the researcher draws a conclusion that there is a correlation between family perceptions of mental illness and family attitudes toward mental illness patients at the Regional Psychiatric Hospital Surakarta.
