AKTIVITAS PEREMPUAN PEDAGANG DALAM MEMENUHI KEBUTUHAN JENDER PRAKTIS DAN STRATEGIS DI PASAR KLEWER SURAKARTA
Abstract
This research deals with the activities of female trader’s in Pasar Klewer
Surakarta in fulfilling their practical and strategic gender needs. This research
aims at describing: (a) forms of activity and participation, (b) forms of access
and activity, and (c) the factors affecting the access, activity, and participation.
The design and strategy of this research is qualitative. The techniques of
data collection are depth interviewing and participant observation. The basis
of analysis used is the Gender Analysis Framework followed with gender
analysis of Harvard Frame Model. The result of this research shows as follows:
(a) the forms of activity and participation of most female traders in
fulfilling practical gender needs include preparing everyday meal, cleaning the
depot, giving service to daily customers or retailers, paying for retribution,
and paying for daily wages; (b) the forms of their activity and access include
selling commodity, finding customers, ownership of saving of gold investment,
and managing the profit of net sale for future trading; and (c) factors influencing
their dominance in practical sector are their qualities of being serious,
patient, tough, household-oriented, skilful in doing domestic work, preparing
daily needs, thrifty in expenditure, careful in managing routine expenditure,
and dedicated in fulfilling daily needs of the family.
