| dc.description.abstract | The article discuses the compound sentence variations at news title of national newspapers. The newspapers included Jawa Pos, Kompas, Koran Tempo, Media Indonesia, and Republika. The study employed Bagi Unsur Langsung technique. Furthermore, it used a content analysis. The result shows that the news title of the newspapers was the compound and complex sentences. In terms of the complex sentences, it could be separated on the basis of compound-singular
function of Adverb (K). Therefore, the complex sentences with its Adverb (K) serves as a
subordinate with 2 K: first K as a subordinate and second K as a main. The complex sentences with their K as a subordinate consisted of these patterns: (1) K(SP), SP conjunction and SP, (2) K((S)PPel), (S)PO, (3) K((S)PPel), SPO, (4) K((S)P), SP, (5) K((S)PK), SP, (6) K((S)P, SPPel, (7) K(PS), SPPel, (8) K((S)P)O), SPO, (9) K(PS), SP, (10) K(SPK), SP,(11) PS conjunction before (S)PO, (12) SPK ((S)P), (13) K(S)PPel, SP, (14) K((S)PO), SPPel, (15) K((S)PPel, SP, (16) K((S)PO), SP, (17) K((S))P), SPPel, and (18) K((S)PO, SPO. The complex sentences have two functions of K: (1) K1 (SP), SPK2, (2) K1(S)P, K2(S)PO, (3) K1((S)P(Pel), SPK2, (4) K1((S)P),SPK2, (5) K1(SP), SPK2, (6) K1(SPO), SPK2, (7) K1(S)P, K2(S)PPel, and (8) K1(S)P(O), (S)PK2. The news items of the compound sentences comprised: (1) who-what, whowhat, (2) what-when, (3) who-what-when, who-when, (4) what-what-what, (5) what-what, (6) what, who-who, (7) when-what, when-what, (8) who-what-when, (9) what, what-how, and (10) what-how, what-how). The alternative complex sentences comprised: (1) why-what, (2) whywho-what,
