PERANAN INTERPRETER DALAM PENGEMBANGAN USAHA EKSPOR INDUSTRI ROTAN

Abstract

This research deals with the role of interpreters in developing an international business of rattan furniture industry. This research aims at identifying the employment status of the interpreter and describing the interpreting type that the interpreters use in performing their role. This study is a qualitative research. The sources of data include informants, activities and documents. The data-collecting methods include observation, interview, and documentation. The results of the research are as follows: (1) in developing the international business of rattan furniture at Trangsan, Gatak, Sukoharjo, interpreters play four main roles, namely: inspiring, mediating, explaining, and guiding; (2) in performing their tasks interpreters use two interpreting types, namely: sight interpreting and consecutive interpreting.
