dc.description.abstract | The aim of this research was to examine the influence of social comparison
to public figures in mass media to the body image of early adolescents in Patikraja,
Banyumas, and to examine the differences between male and female. The respondents
were 130 early adolescent students of seventh grade. The sample
was selected by using cluster random sampling. The data were collected using
social comparison to public figure in media, namely by comparing the scale of
public figure in media and that of students’ body image. The research showed
the following two conclusions. Firstly, there was an negative and significant influence
of social comparison to public figure in media to adolescence’s body
image in Patikraja, Banyumas (r = - 0.297; p = 0.020). Secondly, there was a
significant difference between male and female students (FA = 9.805; mean A1
= 62.292; mean A2 = 62.185; t = 0.115; R2 = 0.071; db = 1/129; p = 0.003).
Male body image was better than female body image. The percentage of the
influence of social comparison in public figure in media was 7 %. | en_US |
