dc.description.abstract | Artikel ini merupakan telaah empiris tentang karakter mahasiswa dan telaah pustaka tentang upaya pengembangannya. Karakter merupakan konstruk multidimensional. Peterson dan Seligman (2004) telah mengidentifikasi 24 strengths yang diistilahkan character strengths dalam klasifikasi “Values in Action” (VIA). Beberapa peneliti telah mengkaji pentingnya character strengths pada perkembangan individu dan hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa dibandingkan dengan karakter lainnya maka ada lima karakter (the top five character strengths) yaitu curiosity, gratitude, hope, zest, dan love yang berpengaruh kuat dan positif pada well-being, mental health, life satisfaction, happiness, dan good performance (Park dkk., 2004; Peterson dkk., 2009; Engel dkk., 2011., Ruch dkk., 2010, 2013; Buschor dkk., 2013). Partisipan adalah 353 mahasiswa (perempuan=278 orang dan laki-laki=75 orang) Fakultas Psikologi UKSW. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa memiliki karakter gratitude, love, dan hope pada kategori di atas rata-rata serta zest dan curiosity pada kategori rata-rata. Secara berurutan karakter yang tertinggi ke terendah yang dimiliki mahasiswa yaitu gratitude, love, hope, zest, dan curiosity. Selain itu didapatkan adanya pengaruh signifikan antara curiosity, gratitude, hope, zest, dan love dengan subjective well-being. Selanjutnya didiskusikan tentang upaya pengembangannya melalui kegiatan-kegiatan yang sesuai dengan mahasiswa. | in_ID |
