This research aims to identify the genetical identity of Baranusa spoken in the island of Pantar in East Nusa Tenggara. Data used in this research were collected in 2014 fieldwork directly from Baranusa, the capital of sub-district Pantar Barat Laut. Research instruments include phonological and lexical entries. The main approach used in this research is qualitative methods with top-down reconstruction. The result shows that Baranusa has some phonological and lexical reflexes from Proto Austronesia with some qualitative findings on primary and secondary sound changes. Innovations and retentions on phonological and lexical levels also revealed in order to get more evidences on the reflexes. This finding reinforces the qualitative evidence that Baranusa is part of Austronesian family and more specifically belongs to East Flores sub-group.in_ID
