dc.description.abstractAbstract: One of the biggest problem that teachers face in teaching is having different level of students ability in their class. The better students tend to grasp the lesson more quickly then the weaker ones. Consequently, if teachers apply a conventional teaching method in classroom, they will find difficulties in completing the materials within the planned time allotment. This matter becomes a main concern especially in SMAN 2 Banjarmasin since a heterogeneous level of student in a class gives impact on accomplishing the target materials. The research attemps to solve the problem trough a cooperative model called Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) which combines between various individual competence and group work competence of students. It helps students who have good academic performance and are interested in chemistry to finish their materials quickly. The aims of research are (1) to improve students comprehension in chemistry particularly in class X of SMAN 2 Banjarmasin. (2) to develop teaching-learning process for chemistry subject in SMAN 2 Banjarmasin (3) to answer the problem dealing with heterogeneous level of students ability (40 to improve the level of completing chemistry materials (5) to encourage students interest in studying chemistry (6) to broaden teachers knowledge in teaching-learning method. This research is a classroom action research held in SMAN 2 Banjarmasin. The subjects of the research were 34 students of class X.3 in SMAN 2 Banjarmasin. The action were conducted in three cycles within thirteen times of classroom learning. The first and the second cycle consisted of four times of classroom learning, while the third cycle covered five times. The analysis of each cycle was taken based on the students achievement indicated by 75% minimum of students are able to accomplish one unit of the lesson or go forward to the next two (2) levels within four classroom learning. The finding of the research shows that (1) using TAI model in teaching learning process is helpful in handling the problem dealing with heterogeneous level of students ability and interest in studying. During the process students with high competence could finish the materials more quickly than others. (2) The three cycle action of TAI model has increased students achievement in studying effectively. (3) teaching-learning process using TAI model has successfully encourage students motivation in studying chemistry as well as cooperative learning in groupsen_US
