dc.description.abstractEtlingera elatior (Jack) R. M. Smith merupakan salah satu spesies dari famili Zingiberaceae yang dimanfaatkan sebagai obat. Pemanfaatan Etlingera elatior sebagai obat berhubungan dengan kandungan metabolit sekundernya. Tulisan ini bertujuan menjelaskan kandungan metabolit sekunder pada E. elatior dan hubungannya dengan pemanfaatannya. Tulisan ini didasarkan pada literatur offline and online media. Offline literatures didasarkan pada handbooks, disertasi, dan tesis. Web, Scopus, Pubmed, Jurnal, dan media online lainnya. Etlingera elatior mengandung senyawa terpenoid, fenolik, namun tidak mengandung alkaloid. Metabolit sekunder pada tumbuhan disintesa dari senyawa antara dari metabolisme primer melalui jalur asam sikimat, jalur asam malonat, jalur asam mevalonat, dan jalur metil eritritolfosfat. Essensial oil atau minyak atsiri merupakan senyawa utama pada Etlingera elatior yang berasal dari dari kelompok terpenoid khusunya dari mono dan sesquiterpenoids. Senyawa mono dan sesquiterpenoids merupakan senyawa mudah menguap yang menghasilkan aroma, sehingga cocok digunakan sebagai senyawa aroma terapi. Flavonoid merupakan senyawa dari golongan fenolik pada Etlingera elatior bermanfaat sebagai antioksidan sehingga mampu menghambat radikal bebas. Etlingera elatior memiliki kandungan essensial oil sedikitnya 99 jenis di daun, sebanyak 62 jenis di rhizoma, sebanyak 26 jenis di batang, dan sebanyak 95 jenis di bunga.in_ID
