dc.description.abstractBanyak persenyawaan yang terkandung dalam minyak atsiri, senyawa 1,8-sineol merupakan salah satu senyawa yang biasanya terkandung dalam minyak atsiri, bahkan ada beberapa tumbuhan yang memiliki kandungan utamanya adalah senyawa 1,8-sineol. 1,8-sineol merupakan eter siklik dengan rumus empiris C 10 H 18 O dan nama sistematik 1,3,3-trimethyl-2-oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octane yang termasuk ke dalam kelompok komponen hidrokarbon teroksigenasi monoterpen. Kandungan senyawa 1,8-sineol dalam minyak atsiri dihasilkan dari berbagai familia tumbuhan. Familia Lamiaceae merupakan familia dengan genus terbanyak yang menghasilkan 1,8-sineol, yang kandungan senyawanya di atas 50% adalah Rosmarinus officinalis dan Thymus capitellatus, Familia Myrtaceae: Eucalyptus globulus, Myrcianthes cisplatensis, dan Melaleuca leucadendra. Familia Asteraceae: Artemisia kermanensis, Familia Burseraceae: Protium heptaphyllum, dan kandungan persentase senyawa 1,8-sineol tertinggi dimiliki oleh spesies Eucalyptus globulus. Senyawa 1,8-sineol memiliki karakteristik segar dan aroma camphor dan rasa pedas yang memiliki bioaktifitas yang banyak manfaatnya, yaitu penurunan aktivitas lokomotor (antikejang), anti-kanker dan anti-tumor, antibakteri baik untuk beberapa bakteri gram-positif dan beberapa bakteri gram-negatif, antifungi, antiinflamasi, antioksidan, sebagai insektisida atau repelan, dan dapat mengurangi resiko penyakit kardiovaskular.in_ID
