    Abstract
    The focus of this study was about Muhammadiyah thought toward cultural plurality. Include theoretical-methodological thinking or in the formulation of ideologies, movements, and cultural strategy championed by Muhammadiyah as an institution which is engaged in Dakwah and declare themselves as cultural movement. This research includes the study of literature and documentaries. By using the approach to interpretation, which makes a meaning contained in the reality as elusive and misunderstood objects to be captured and understood. Based on the findings in the study, it can be concluded as follows: First, as a movement Tajdid fi al-Islam, Muhammadiyah in understanding and interpreting Islam is always based on and refer to the primary sources of Islamic teachings, namely the Koran and al- Sunnah. This principle is at the core of the Muhammadiyah movement. Second, application of the principle Tajdid with the meaning of the above has distinguished Muhammadiyah with other purification movement, which tends to show the purification of Islam without the flexibilities, so that its movements are underdeveloped, even easily broken up because of rigidity in religious understanding and implementing Islamic teachings purification. . Third, Muhammadiyah thought about cultural plurality, which forms understandings, responses, strategies, and Muhammadiyah cultural movement, constantly reconstructed from time to time in order to strengthen the identity of the Muhammadiyah, as well as a good foundation movement in the context of internal and external. Fourth, Muhammadiyah has a very high consistency in ideological thinking and exploring methodologies thoughts, with the implementation of an ideology or Tajdid theology. In fact, the strength of the ideology, there are those who view that issues of religious pluralism, gender, democratization, human rights, and the like are significantly less developed in the discourse of Muhammadiyah as constrained by the ideological signposts above, so the renewal, dynamicity, and modernization of Muhammadiyah much to dwell on the level of ad hock, technical issues, technology, management and development of movements, such as Dakwah strategy, the development of educational programs, and so on.
