The paper unfolds the legacy of Islam, displaying significant Islamic mores compatible to democracy, such as first, human-equality through the norm of tauhid; second, corporate-social-responsibility via the value of khilafah as well as the operational norms such as musyawarah and discussion (the value of syura) and consensus (ijma). Further it expands to pinpoint the legacy of ijtihad—the dynamic of musyawarah. Other operational norms are social-contract through the value of bay’ah, opposition and the rights to express and to have opinions. Respect and appreciation to differences are also significant Islamic norms through ikhtilaf. Lastly, most important, protection to minorities group via the norm of dzimmah. Previous Islamic parameters are vital sources to the execution of democratic community.en_US
