    Abstract
    This study aimed to describe the role of parents in shaping the religious character and manners in Tegalgede Muhammadiyah elementary school students, Karanganyar. The research applies descriptive qualitative method. Data collection is done by in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. This study shows that 1) the religious is a person's attitude and behavior that uphold the values of the deity, noble, and able to carry out religious obligation and be able to appreciate and live in harmony with everyone while mannered behavior upholds values of mutual respect with regard to manners (unggah-ungguh); 2) Parents have a very important role in the formation of a religious character and manners, because the parents are the ones who are closest to the child and the person who always imitated by children.
