Pemanfaatan Tongkol Jagung untuk Adsorpsi Zat Warna Reactive Blue 19
Abstract
Coloring process is a dominant step in the textile industry, and this process takes a lot of dyes
which eventually became the largest element in textile wastewater. One of the dyes used is Remazol
Brilliant Blue or Reactive Blue 19 (RB19). The dyes lead to cause an environmental problems since
they decrease the water quality. The research was carried out in a batch system for the absorption
of the dyeby using active carbon derived from corn cobs. The purpose of this study is to investigate
the inf luence of dye concentration, initial pH of the waste, and time of adsorption. Adsorption is
conducted by varying the concentration of the adsorbate (25, 50, 75, and 100 mg/L), pH (5, 7, 9,
and 11). The results showed an effective adsorbent of corncobs at low concentration and high pH.
Data analysis uses two approaches of adsorption isotherm, i.e. Langmuir and Freundlich equation.
From both the isotherms, Freundlich isotherm produce smaller error of data, variations in the
amount of 0.0139 to 0.0387 for the concentration and pH variation respectively. This shows that
the corn cob is an excellent adsorbent for the adsorption of RB19.
