Nursing leadership based on emotional intelligence is potential to improve nursing caring behavior in Indonesia. The purpose of this research is to find out the effectivity of nursing leadership based on emotional intelligence of the head nurse and its effect to the associate nurse’s caring behavior. The study occupy quasi experimental with control group time series design. Proportional random sampling technique was used for the in-patients departments of both hospitals with 44 participants from each hospital. The statistical analysis used general linear model of repeated ANOVA to find out the different of caring behavior on the intervention group and the control group and to gain the different caring behavior on each measurement thus know the effect age and length of working on associate nurse’s caring behavior. The result of this study shows the score of the associate nurse’s caring behavior on intervention group is higher than the control group with the P value= 0.020. The increase of the score of associate nurse’s caring behavior on intervention group was significant with the mean before the intervention is 135.5 and after the intervention, mean= 142.1, with the P value= 0.003. There is significant effect of the nursing leadership based on the emotional intelligent with the associate nurse’s caring behavior. The nursing leadership based on emotional intelligent is effective to improve associate nurse’s caring behavior so it is recommended to give the training for the implementation.
