RELEVANSI ANTARA TES AKHIR DAN TUJUAN PENGAJARAN BAHASA INGGRIS DI SMP SE-SURAKARTA
Abstract
This study is aimed at synthesizing the objectives of the teaching of English in the thirdgrade
of SMP Surakarta, classifying the final test of English given to the third-grade students of
SMP Surakarta, and comparing the objectives of the teaching of English and the final test of English
in the third-grade of SMP Surakarta. The type of this study is descriptive qualitative, the object
of this study is the relevance between the final tes the objective of teaching English in the third
-grade of SMP Surakarta,the data of this study are the specific objective of teaching English taken
from the 2004 curriculum of English for SMP/MTS and the final test items of English taken from
the 2005/2006 national test for SMP/MTS, and they are collected by the document analysis. Before
the data are analyzed, the objectives and tests are classified based on the types of English skills
and English elements. The result of analysis is that the final tests of English which are relevant
with the objective of teaching English in the third-grade of SMP Surakarta are most of the test
items of reading skill and the final tests of English which are not relevant with the objective of
teaching English in the third-grade of SMP Surakarta are some of the test items of reading skill
and all test items of writing skill. Based on the result of analysis, it can be concluded that the objectives
of teaching English that can be achieved are only most of the objectives of reading skill,
and the objectives of teaching English that cannot be achieved are all the objectives of teaching
listening, speaking, and writing and some of the objectives of teaching reading skill.
