Abstract
This study aims at finding: (1) the correlation between motivation and
students’ achievement in speaking skill; (2) the extent of the correlation; and
(3) the contribution of motivation to the achievement. The study is a survey
and takes the sample of 100 students by means of proportional random sampling
technique. The data-collecting methods include questionnaire and speaking
test; and the collected data are analyzed statistically by means of correlation
and regression techniques. The outcome of the study is as follows: (1) there is
a significant positive correlation between motivation and students’ achievement
in English-speaking skill; (2) the extent of the correlation of the two variables
is r = 0.529; and (3) the contribution of motivation to the achievement is
27.98%. It implies that motivation represents a predictor to the students’
achievement in speaking skill.
