MASALAH PENERJEMAHAN ISTILAH METODOLOGI PENELITIAN

Abstract

This study aims at describing translation of research methodological terms from English to Indonesian, (2) finding the reasons underlying the translation, identifying the meaning shift in the translating process, and identifying the readers’ response to the translated text. The data-collecting methods were document analysis and interview. The collected data were analyzed by using comparison technique. The result of the study showed the following conclusions. Firstly, there were three categories of the translation of the research methodological terms, namely: high accuracy, medium accuracy, and low accuracy. Secondly, the inaccurate translations occurred when the translator could not get the point of the terms being translated. Thirdly, meaning shifts occurred when the translator failed to characterize the research methodological terms. Finally, the readers’ response to the translation was an important indicator of a clear and understood translation.
